Breast implant removal, also known as explantation of implants, can be performed to remove breast implants. Whether a woman decides she no longer wants her implants, or decides to change the size or shape of her breasts, the implants can be safely removed from the implant pockets. The implants can then be replaced with a different size, style or shaped implant, or can be avoided altogether. Once removed, the breast implant pocket will disappear with the healing process. Because removing the implants will reduce the size and shape of the breasts, some woman who do not want replacement of the implants, may elect to restore a youthful shape with a Breast Lift. If the patient’s goal is to remove the implants but maintain a fuller shape without implants, an ideal option is to consider Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation.
Dr. Calloway employs a variety of breast surgery techniques to achieve the ideal proportions of the breasts. As every patient presents with different breast shapes, clinical situations and desires for final breast appearance, Dr. Calloway recognizes that every procedure needs to be tailored and customized to the individual. Consequently, breast surgery represents a wide array of procedures that are blended and adapted to each specific patient to achieve the desired natural symmetric look to the breasts.
The cost of the surgery will vary depending on the procedures utilized. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation or under general anesthesia in our Accredited Outpatient Surgical Facility. The usual recovery is approximately 2 weeks before exercise regimens are usually resumed. The stitches do not require removal as they slowly dissolve over time. Also included as part of the procedure, Dr. Calloway performs non invasive laser treatments on the small hidden incisions to help them fade more rapidly. Thorough individualized instructions are reviewed with the patient and caregiver prior to surgery, and frequent postoperative visits with Dr. Calloway and his staff ensure a smooth and straightforward recovery.*
